Medicine Class of 2007 Officer's MeetingWednesday Jan 7, 2004MEETING SUMMARYIn attendance: Fatima Cody Stanford (Presiding), James Fletcher, Monica Mead, Christina Fournier, Hany Naggar, Cassie Boggs, Scott Pannell, Adam Beall, Jeremy Collins, Amanda Pinyan, Frances Casey, Brent Moister, Matt Nuckols, Stephen Fleming, Elga Tinger, Carl Jacobs Absent: Brett Krummert (Academic VP), Guy Register (Historian) After an introduction and welcome, thanks were extended by Fatima Cody Stanford for the efforts of class officers regarding the situation surrounding the biochemistry final last semester. Upon proposal of the Academic Vice Presidents, the officers agreed to urge all students to direct their concerns regarding exams directly to the AVPs - not to other officers, who would then have to relay the information. It was announced that after working with the Curriculum Office and the MCG Bookstore, a "bulk discount" arrangement had been worked out regarding the purchase of instruments. Instruments would be made available to the students at a discount of 33-40% if 48 or more students buy the same equipment through the bookstore. More information will be made available later. The President and/or Curriculum VPs will check on the procedures and guidelines for summer preceptorship opportunities and report back. The officers agreed to a new system whereby the meeting minutes would be distributed via e-mail ASAP after their completion for approval. If approved, they would be made available to the class as a whole on the next day. This will hopefully allow the class to view the minutes from the previous officer's meeting before the next is held, so that they might bring any concerns to the officers who can then address them at the following meeting. As of January 7, 2004, the class account balance stands at $11,202.38. Expenditures since the last meeting include a check for $850.00 to the Ramada Plaza Hotel for facility rental fees for Freshman Brawl, a check for $60.00 for security at Freshman Brawl, a check for $271.21 for the beer provided at Freshman Brawl, and a check for $80.17 for supplies used at the Boys and Girls' Club Holiday Party. One deposit was made in the amount of $2165.00. Arrangements for the Winter/Spring Semi-formal are being made by the Class of 2006. More information will be distributed by the Social VPs as it is received. The Community Service VPs reported that the program to sponsor a family for the Holidays went extremely well. The Community Service VPs are also planning a possible Valentine's Day or Spring party for the Boys and Girls Club, as well as investigating interest and plans for a possible "Alternative Spring Break". The officers voted to adopt a "telephone tree" as outlined and planned by Cassie Boggs as a means of distributing urgent information quickly. This system will be put into effect after the class roster/contact list is updated and re-distributed by James Fletcher. The Curriculum VPs announced that Drs. Albritton and Wragg, as curriculum administrators, would like to meet with the entire class sometime in the near future to introduce and address concerns about next year's "integrated curriculum and how the change will affect our class. The Curriculum VPs will inform Drs. Wragg and Albritton that by holding this class meeting on the day of an exam, and by possibly providing lunch to the students in attendance, most students in the class would be likely to attend. A sample of the finished class T-shirt was shown. This sample will be made available for the class to view in the near future. Orders for class t-shirts will also begin soon. The price for short-sleeved t-shirts will be $12, and for long-sleeved, $15. The class website is up and working at http://www.mcg-2007.com Anyone having feedback or suggestions regarding the site may e-mail Technology Officer Brent Moister. Meeting adjourned at 12:51 PM. |
